Travel and Terrain Advice

It is generally a safe avalanche condition. Those who increase the elevation should be aware of the small windslabs that remain in the extreme terrain. Today, southerly winds are coming in, and it is forecast that the temperature will rise above yesterday. Be wary of glide cracks forming at low elevations. If you are descending from the valley at the end of the tour, be aware of the collapse of snow blocks on the extreme terrain above you. The mountains are expected to be crowded. Even when the snow is stable, please keep in mind group management that recognizes the avalanche terrain. The habit of following these basics will reduce the incidents of another day. Have a nice day

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (4th), a point occurrence wet snow avalanche of size 1 was observed on a south-facing slope with a low elevation. There were also snowballs out there.

Snowpack

On the south-facing slope, which was strongly affected by the solar radiation and temperature rise due to yesterday's favorable weather, the snow surface melted and lost strength, causing an avalanche of wet snow. When elevations are raised, hard old snow surfaces are exposed where they are hit by the wind, forming isolated slabs that are less responsive locally on the terrain. There is a dense recent snowfall in the valley floor on the north side, which is at a high elevation and less affected by the wind.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts southern winds, slightly stronger, later, west winds, strong, sunny, later, cloudy, rain or snow from the evening, and a maximum temperature of 15°C (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. The temperature is -3℃ (as of 5:00) at Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1,310m).
