Below Treeline Good
信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
Yesterday was a day when there was a danger of an avalanche in a stormy snow situation that is easy for anyone to understand, but today is a day where avalanche conditions are high despite the pleasant good weather. The instability that responded to human stimuli in the below treeline yesterday has not yet been resolved. Even at low elevations, large slopes opened on the south side of Hakuba Goryu and Happo One are in a situation where larger avalanches can be induced than yesterday. This is because snow on the surface layer intensifies the tendency of slabs (platy) than yesterday. I think that if you raise the elevation, you can find many traces of yesterday's storm. If it is a sloping slope that is not affected by the wind, it is also possible to glide comfortably. Even if the weather is good, it is not a day to push to the great slope. Have a safe day with careful route setting and proper terrain use.
Yesterday (6th), avalanches of a large number of storm slabs of size 1-1.5 have been reported in the safety management of the ski area. In addition, avalanches of size 1.5 due to ski cuts have also been reported in the below treeline.
Snowfall from the afternoon of the 5th reached 50 cm in the lower part of the below treeline by the morning of the 6th, and the total was about 80 cm by the evening. Also, at elevations higher than the upper part of the below treeline, a storm toward the west continued to blow all day. The melting frozen crust or wet coarse snow formed from the 4th to the 5th is under the snow of this stormy weather, and as of yesterday, it is not sufficiently combined, so many avalanches have occurred. In addition, a large temperature gradient at the interface has also been observed in some parts, and it is an element that should be watched in the future.
The Meteorological Agency forecasts the northern part of Nagano prefecture with northern winds, occasional sunny weather, snow until noon, and a maximum temperature of 5℃ (elevation 418m). At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), we have observed snowfall of 3 cm in the past 12 hours with a temperature of -4.3℃ (as of 5:00 p.m.).
