Travel and Terrain Advice

It's the arrival of spring. Mountains are generally safe avalanche conditions, but beware of slabs that remain in extreme or isolated forms of terrain. Such places are often terrain traps below, and even a small avalanche can have serious consequences. Also, today's temperature is forecast to rise above the previous day. Be aware of the point occurrence of wet snow on steep slopes at low altitudes and strong effects of solar radiation and temperature rise. Also, if you enter Sawasuji at the end of the tour, you need to be vigilant about the snow block above you. Even on days when the snow cover is stable, please continue group management that uses the terrain appropriately. Have a nice day

概要

Avalanche

No new avalanches were observed yesterday (8th).

Snowpack

The snow from the previous stormy weather proceeded with sintering and changed to a stable one. At higher elevations, small wind slabs with increased hardness over time remain in pockets at specific terrain localities. Where the elevation is low and the effects of solar radiation and temperature rise are strong, the surface layer of the snow cover becomes rough snow, resulting in spring conditions.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts northerly winds, sunny, sometimes cloudy, and a high temperature of 10 degrees Celsius (elevation 418 m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -8.2℃ (as of 5:00), and there is no new snowfall in the past 12 hours.
