Travel and Terrain Advice

It's the arrival of spring. Mountains are generally safe avalanche conditions, but beware of slabs that remain in extreme or isolated forms of terrain. Such places are often terrain traps below, and even a small avalanche can have serious consequences. Also, today's temperature is forecast to rise above the previous day. Be aware of the point occurrence of wet snow on steep slopes at low altitudes and strong effects of solar radiation and temperature rise. Also, if you enter Sawasuji on the tour route, you need to be vigilant about the snow block above you. Even on days when the snow cover is stable, please continue group management that uses the terrain appropriately. Have a nice day

概要

Avalanche

A Glide avalanche avalanche of size 2 has been observed yesterday (8th) in extreme terrain at low elevations.

Snowpack

The snow from the previous stormy weather proceeded with sintering and changed to a stable one. At higher elevations, small wind slabs with increased hardness over time remain in pockets at specific terrain localities. Where the elevation is low and the effects of solar radiation and temperature rise are strong, the surface layer of the snow cover becomes rough snow, resulting in spring conditions.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts southern wind, daytime, north wind, sunny, sometimes cloudy, and high temperature 9℃ (elevation 13 m) from the afternoon to the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. The temperature is -9℃ (as of 5:00) at Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1,310m).
