Travel and Terrain Advice

At high altitudes, it is necessary to be vigilant for storm slabs formed by snowfall from last night. Please check the behavior of the slab using a small, safe convex terrain, etc. When you are not sure of the condition, reduce the slope and avoid convexity and unsupported slopes that are easy to induce. There may be places where snowfall makes glide cracks difficult to see. Be vigilant enough for slopes where you can't see ahead. Also, at low altitudes, the risk of Glide avalanche continues. Be careful, including any remaining snow blocks above you.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (18th), a naturally occurring all-layer avalanche, size 2.5, has been observed in the below treeline.

Snowpack

The snow cover at low altitudes is sufficiently wet due to rainfall from yesterday afternoon (about 20 mm by this morning), and the temperature is also high, so the risk of Glide avalanche continues. It seems to have snowfall at high altitudes, and it is thought that about 20 cm has fallen from the amount of rainfall.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts westerly wind, rain, sometimes cloudy, and a high temperature of 7 degrees Celsius (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. The temperature is 0℃ (as of 5:00) at Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1,310m), and snowfall of 4 cm in the past 24 hours.
