Travel and Terrain Advice

Wind slabs are now expected to form near the ridge crest as winds are picking up and snow is moving. Please be careful of triggering on steep slopes just below the ridge and branch ridges. Many "terrain traps" such as rocks and gullies are exposed where even small avalanches can cause extensive damage. Be careful of collisions with rocks thinly concealed by snowfall. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting the passage of a cold front. Please be aware of the changing effects of wind and snowfall.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (25th), a human-triggered size 1 slab avalanche was reported on an extremely steep slope just below the south ridge crest near 3000m.

Snowpack

Due to the recent rainfall, faceting inside the snowpack at elevations below approximately 2,500 meters is progressing and binding is deteriorating. Wind slabs are now expected to form near the ridge line due to windy conditions and snow movement.

Weather

The temperature in Murodo at 6:00am was -0.2℃ and the wind was picking up near the ridge. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the area will be covered by high pressure at first, but a cold front is expected to pass through the Hokuriku region, so it will be sunny and cloudy at the foot of the mountain, with rain in the evening and thunderstorms in some areas from midday.
