Massive snowfall makes action difficult. Be aware of the presence of storm slabs on open, steep slopes with few trees. Be aware of large avalanche slopes that exist above you, even if you are on a low slope within the tree line. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullies, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase the damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. In lower elevations, exposed bushes make it difficult to ski. Be careful not to fall into gully. Snowfall is still continuing. Please be aware of the increasing snowfall and changing wind effects in the future.
Beware of triggering on open steep slopes with few trees.
Several size 1 slab avalanches were observed yesterday (5th), both spontaneous and human-triggered, on steep slopes in the tree line. No observations at higher elevations.
In areas with heavy snowfall, more than 200 cm of snow has fallen as a result of this stormy weather, and settling is gradually progressing. Attention should be paid to bonding of new snowfall.
As of 5:00 am, 8 cm of snow had fallen in the past 24 hours at AMeDAS Fujiwara, and weak snowfall is still continuing. The Japan Meteorological Agency has forecast that the winter pressure pattern will gradually loosen, but because of the influence of a pressure trough and moist air, it will be cloudy and sometimes sunny at the foot of the mountains in northern Gunma Prefecture, with some snowfall until morning.
