Travel and Terrain Advice

Watch for unbonded storm slabs forming on open steep slopes with few trees. The weather service is forecasting continued snowfall. Please act with caution to watch for increased snowfall and wind effects. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullies, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. In the lower elevation zones, bushes are exposed and difficult to ski.

A small dry loose snow avalanche was observed yesterday.

Snowpack

Snowfall since midnight is expected to be at least 30-40 cm on top of the crust that formed on the southerly slopes yesterday. Caution is needed for bonding.

Weather

As of 4:00 p.m., 16 cm of snow had fallen in the past 12 hours at AMeDAS Fujiwara, and snow continues to fall. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is forecasting a cold front moving southward across the Kanto Koshin region and gradually forming a winter pressure pattern, resulting in snow at the foot of the mountains in northern Gunma Prefecture and cloudy skies in the evening.
