Watch for newly formed wind slabs on the ridge, just below the branch ridges and on open steep slopes with few trees. Expect some solar radiation during the day. If snowballs begin to roll on steep slopes, it is a sign that the snowpack is losing strength. Watch for the possibility of loose snow avalanches from large southerly steep slopes. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullies, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. Holes in the gully have filled in at lower elevations, but be careful not to step through them.
Be careful of steep slopes on the ridge and just below the branch ridge.
Yesterday, many size 2 slab avalanches were observed just below the ridge line from northeast to south above 1600m, which may have occurred during the stormy weather on the 10th.
New wind slabs are expected to form on the ridge and just below the branch ridge due to wind-driven snow movement from yesterday and this morning. Attention should be paid to bonding of the boundary surfaces. The snowfall from the recent stormy weather is settling and gaining strength.
As of 6:00 am, there has been no snowfall in the past 24 hours at Amedas Fujiwara, and settling is in progress. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies and occasionally cloudy skies due to a high pressure system, but subject to the influence of a pressure trough.
