Travel and Terrain Advice

Temperatures are expected to rise during the day with solar radiation. When snowballs begin to roll on steep slopes, it is a sign that the snowpack is losing strength. Be aware of the possibility of loose snow avalanches and snow cover collapsing from large southerly steep slopes. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullys, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. In the lower elevations, the holes in the gully have filled in, but be careful not to step through them.

概要

Avalanche

Several small-scale loose snow avalanches were observed yesterday on the steep southerly slopes.

Snowpack

On the steep southerly slopes, yesterday's solar radiation caused melting and the subsequent formation of crusts. The snowfall from the recent stormy weather is settling and strengthening.

Weather

As of 4:00 pm, there has been no snowfall in the past 24 hours at AMeDAS Fujiwara, and settling is in progress. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear and cloudy evenings with some rain showers at night in northern Gunma Prefecture as high pressure moves eastward over southern Japan and a front moves into the Sea of Japan.
