The danger of glide cracks is increasing at lower elevations. Please stay away from cracked slopes and move quickly when passing below them. The danger of loose snow avalanches also increases with the degree of daytime temperature rise and rainfall. Wet snow is very heavy and easily scoots underfoot. If there is a "terrain trap" below you, the consequences can be grave. The weather is downhill and rainfall is forecast. Plan your activities with this in mind.
Yesterday (January 13), several size 1 wet loose snow avalanches were observed at lower elevations.
Weak rain fell very early morning today. Based on the amount of precipitation since dawn, we expect about 10 cm of snow to have fallen at very high elevations. In addition, a temperature of 8.3°C (14:00) was recorded at the valley of the mountain yesterday, indicating that the snow has melted.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting winds from the south, then from the north, cloudy, and in places, rain before noon, with a high of 12°C (418m elevation) for northern Nagano Prefecture. At Hakuba Valley of the bottom (elevation 703m), the temperature is 1.6℃ (as of 5:00), and no snow has fallen at the foot of the mountain in the past 12 hours.
