Travel and Terrain Advice

Temperatures are forecast to rise. When snowballs begin to roll on steep slopes, it is a sign that the snowpack is losing strength. Watch for the possibility of a loose snow avalanche or cornice collapse from large southerly steep slopes. Since there is no nighttime cooling in the lower elevations, also watch for possible snow block collapses and glide avalanches from cliff-like areas where the snowpack is thin and glide cracks are open.

概要

Avalanche

Multiple loose snow avalanche size 1 wet snow avalanches were observed on steep slopes yesterday

Snowpack

Due to yesterday's warming and rainfall, the snowpack at least below 1600m has gone from moist to wet in all directions, with the snow surface losing strength on the steeper southerly slopes. The surface is expected to freeze at higher elevations. New glide cracks opened in some places on convex steep slopes.

Weather

As of 4:00 pm, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara was 2.6℃. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies and rain or snow around early evening in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture as a front moves south of the Izu Islands and is affected by a pressure trough and cold air.
