Below Treeline Good
信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
At the Treeline and Below Treeline, conditions are spring with warmer temperatures and rainfall over the past two days. Below Treeline, snowpack is rapidly diminishing, gully holes are forming, and snow bridges are weakening. Be on the lookout for various "terrain traps" in the forest. Also, glide avalanche danger continues at lower elevations. Please stay clear of slopes with glide cracks and move quickly when passing below them.
Watch for slopes with glide cracks.
It is estimated that about 15 cm of snow has fallen in the past two days
Yesterday (January 14), numerous size 1 loose snow avalanches were observed in the Treeline and Below Treeline. Below Treeline, several size 1-1.5 glide avalanches were observed on the eastern and southern slopes.
Intermittent, weak rainfall from the afternoon of January 13 through the evening of January 14 wetted the upper layer of snowpack below treeline sufficiently. This has resulted in glide avalanches at lower elevations. Due to the warm temperatures this morning, this danger should be considered ongoing. Alpine appears to be experiencing weak snowfall during this period, but there is a lack of information and a high degree of uncertainty.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northerly winds, late afternoon to early evening, snow or rain, and a maximum temperature of 7°C (418 m elevation) for northern Nagano Prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is 2.4°C (as of 5:00).
