Alpine Fair
Treeline Fair
Below Treeline Good
信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
At higher elevations exposed to strong winds, hard ice or Melt-Freeze layers due to rainfall are exposed. This situation requires extreme caution to avoid slipping and falling. At higher elevations, loosely bound snow accumulates in terrain pockets. Watch out for "terrain traps" below you. The creeks in the forest have many holes due to melting snow, and hard debris is hidden under the thin fresh snow.
Very steep slopes unaffected by wind, or very steep slopes with strong exposure to solar radiation
No new avalanches were observed yesterday (January 18).
The effects of last weekend's rainfall have reached the alpine areas and the snow surface is hard frozen with subsequent snow on top of it. After the snowfall, very strong northerly winds blew, exposing the old icy snow surface in windy areas. We have had light snowfall over the last few days, with 10-15 cm in the upper treeline below. The loose snow remains in the terrain pocket unaffected by the wind or solar radiation.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting winds from the south, daytime, north winds, clear, morning and evening, cloudy, with a high of 7°C (418 m elevation) for northern Nagano Prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -2.2°C (as of 5 am), with no snowfall in the past 12 hours.
