Travel and Terrain Advice

Snow is settling and avalanche danger is decreasing. However, isolated, very steep slopes and other areas should still be avoided. Even though the weather is improving today, it is a phenomenon known as pseudo-favorable weather. Very strong cold air will move in toward tomorrow and it will be very rough. Please use an early action plan to descend the mountain. There are numerous "terrain traps" hidden in the forest, please be careful.

概要

Avalanche

No avalanches were reported observed in the mountains yesterday (January 22).

Snowpack

The snowfall from the evening of the 20th is on top of the hard crust or old snow. The condition of bonding between the melt-freeze crust and new snow is confirmed to be improving. On the other hand, there are few observational data on the instability of faceting snow reported in the Hakuba Mountains area, and uncertainty remains.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting a southerly wind, later westerly, cloudy, sunny from early afternoon to early evening, with a maximum temperature of 10°C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -6° (as of 5:45 a.m.).
