Beware of bonding of newly formed storm slabs. Be careful of triggering on open steep slopes with little tree cover and sudden changes in slope. Beware of avalanches from large start zones overhead, even if you yourself are on a low slope. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullys, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the generated avalanche is small. Holes in the gully have not been filled in at lower elevations. Be careful of falls.
Beware of triggering on steep slopes.
Numerous human-triggered loose snow avalanche size 1 dry avalanches were observed on steep slopes yesterday.
Yesterday, there was about 20-30 cm of low-density snowfall with little wind effect, which triggered many loose snow avalanches triggered by skiers. The snowfall from last night is on top of this low-density accumulation, so care must be taken in bonding the boundary surfaces.
As of 4:00 pm, there has been no new snowfall in the past 12 hours in the area around AMeDAS Fujiwara and settling is in progress, but snow is still falling with wind. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies and occasional snow until early afternoon in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture due to a winter pressure pattern and the influence of a pressure trough and moist air.
