Very dangerous avalanche conditions. Within the avalanche bulletin area, differences in snowfall will result in different levels of danger. In areas of heavy snowfall, avalanches are possible even in the forests if the slope is steep enough. These are days when even the powder snow in the ski area can be enjoyed. It is a good idea to enjoy the fresh snow in the ski area with your friends.
Yesterday (January 27), size 1 loose snow avalanches and slab avalanches were reported Below Treeline. Both were caused by weakly coherent snowfall from the previous day.
The snowfall, which intensified on the evening of January 27, is 30-50 cm Below Treeline. This new snow is accumulating under the influence of north-to-northwest winds.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northwesterly winds, beginning a little strong, with snow and a maximum temperature of 1°C (13 m above sea level) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -10° (as of 4:45 a.m.). The Niigata District Weather Bureau issued a heavy snow advisory (12-hour maximum snowfall: 50 cm) for the mountain areas of Myoko City at 4:24 a.m. on January 28.
