Travel and Terrain Advice

Beware of bonding of newly formed storm slabs. Be careful of triggering on open steep slopes with little tree cover and sudden changes in slope. Beware of avalanches from large start zones overhead, even if you yourself are on a low slope. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullies, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the generated avalanche is small.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday, despite poor visibility, multiple human-triggered slab avalanches size 1 were observed on steep slopes between 1700m and 1800m in the Hotaka area.

Snowpack

On top of the low-density snowfall, more than 50 cm of new snow has fallen since the 27th, and the boundary bonding is poor and reacting to human stimulation, so caution is required. More than 90 cm is expected in the Kagura area.

Weather

As of 4:00 am, 10 cm of snow has fallen in the past 24 hours in the vicinity of AMeDAS Fujiwara, and snowfall is still continuing. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting that the winter pressure pattern will loosen and high pressure will cover the area, but due to the influence of a pressure trough and moist air, it will be cloudy and sometimes sunny at the foot of the mountains in northern Gunma Prefecture, with some snowfall until dawn.
