Beware of bonding of newly formed storm slabs. Be careful of triggering on open steep slopes with little tree cover and sudden changes in slope. Beware of avalanches from large start zones overhead, even if you yourself are on a low slope. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullys, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the generated avalanche is small. Yesterday, a fatal avalanche occurred in the Tanigawadake area. On the day of the accident, there were many dangerous behaviors of many skiers "skiing into the same slope at the same time". Remember that the best slope to ski is "the avalanche terrain". Remember the basics: one person at a time, moving from safe zone to safe zone, and those in the safe zone monitoring the skiers. Also, please check below to make sure that your avalanche does not cause damage to others.
Yesterday, a fatal avalanche occurred at Nishikurozawa, Tanigawa-dake, but details are unknown. Numerous loose snow avalanche size 1 and one slab avalanche size 2 were observed in the vicinity of 1400m elevation. Several slab avalanche size 1-2 were observed near 1800m in the Kagura area as having occurred during stormy weather.
Caution is needed because there is a low-density layer within the boundary surface of the massive snowfall from the 27th and within the snowpack of stormy weather, which is poorly bonded and responsive to human stimulation.
As of 4:00 pm, 2 cm of snow had fallen in the past 24 hours around AMeDAS Fujiwara. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear then cloudy skies at the foot of the mountains in northern Gunma Prefecture, with occasional snowfall from midday, as a low pressure system moves from the Sea of Japan to the Sanriku Coast, gradually becoming high in the west and low in the east, and affected by a pressure trough and cold air.
