In all elevation zones, be on the lookout for storm slabs or loose snow avalanches that have formed from the snowfall up to this morning. The most important aspect of avalanche protection is the relationship between slope and terrain. Even if the snow tends to be stable, if the terrain is not conducive to supporting the snowpack and the slope is very steep, avalanches can often be triggered by human stimulation. Observe the terrain carefully to see where the soft slabs formed by the snowfall up to this morning are located. And please continue to follow the general rule of action of skiing one at a time and stopping in safe zones. The weather is getting worse. Plan your activities with this in mind.
Beware of very steep slopes, even in the forest

A size 1 loose snow avalanche was observed yesterday (January 29).
The most recent snowfall has been settling, with about 20 cm of low-density new snow on top of it. It is accumulating in relatively light wind conditions, and it should be kept in mind that it is likely to drift and form slabs in the future when the wind increases.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting winds from the south, later from the west, strong and snowy, with a maximum temperature of 6° (at 13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -7° (as of 6:15 am).
