Watch out for unstable snow remaining on extreme terrain features. The north-to-east-facing slopes have dry, supportive powder with a good riding feel. Falls in the mountains can cause all kinds of problems, so please keep your speed under control and enjoy the JAPOW. Creeks in the forest have filled in well, but not as well as in previous years. Imagine that there are holes in the bottom of the gully, which are hidden by the recent snowfall, and choose a safe route. Have a good day.
Yesterday (January 31), a size 1 slab avalanche was observed by ski cut Below Treeline.
Recent snowfall has been promoting sintering and settling, and no significant instability has been observed. Warmer temperatures are predicted for today, and attention should be paid to the snow changes during the day at lower elevations.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting winds from the south, then from the west, slightly stronger, cloudy, rain or snow in the evening, and a maximum temperature of 11°C (13 m above sea level) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -8° (as of 6:15 a.m.).
