Travel and Terrain Advice

Watch out for bonding of newly formed storm slabs due to snowfall with strong westerly winds since last night. Be careful of triggering on open steep slopes where there are few trees, or where there is a sudden change in slope, or on steep slopes just below ridgelines or branch ridges. Be aware of avalanches from large start zones overhead, even if you yourself are on a low slope. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullies, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the generated avalanche is small.

概要

Avalanche

No new avalanches were reported yesterday.

Snowpack

Yesterday, the southerly steep slopes melted and formed crusts due to solar radiation, and 30-50 cm of snowfall with strong westerly winds from last night is expected on top of the crusts. Sedimentation is progressing slowly and bonding is gradually rising.

Weather

As of 4:00 pm, 17 cm of snow had fallen in the past 24 hours at AMeDAS Fujiwara. Snowfall is still continuing in the surrounding areas with strong winds. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting that the winter pressure pattern will continue but is expected to loosen in the afternoon, resulting in cloudy skies and snow before dawn in northern Gunma Prefecture.
