Travel and Terrain Advice

This is a day to be on the lookout for unstable snow that remains in certain terrains. Generally, a significant amount of snowfall will continue to cause instability for several days. The speed of its resolution varies from place to place. Watch out for slabs that form on isolated slopes, convexities, or extreme terrain where the terrain is not conducive to supporting snowpack. If you are a little unsure about judging snow conditions, consider using terrain to provide a margin of safety. You can easily find a safe line by choosing a low angles ridge or a gentle slope.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (February 2), a number of size 1-1.5 storm slab avalanches were reported in the morning control of the ski area. Several size 1-1.5 avalanches and shooting cracks were also reported in the mountain area Below Treeline.

Snowpack

New snow from about noon on February 1 to noon on February 2 was about 40-60 cm Below Treeline. The storm slab was affected by strong winds, and dense snow layers were formed, which responded to ski cuts. This instability was rapidly dissipating at lower elevations yesterday.
