This is a day to be on the lookout for unstable snow that remains in certain terrains. Generally, a significant amount of snowfall will continue to cause instability for several days. The speed of its resolution varies from place to place. Watch out for slabs that form on isolated slopes, convexities, or extreme terrain where the terrain is not conducive to supporting snowpack. If you are a little unsure about judging snow conditions, consider using terrain to provide a margin of safety. You can easily find a safe line by choosing a low angles ridge or a gentle slope.
Be alert to where snow crossloads and forms slabs.
Be wary of extreme terrain features and very steep slopes.
Yesterday (February 2), few people entered the mountain and no avalanche reports were received.
Below Treeline, storm snow has been reported to be settling. At higher elevations, there is a lack of information, so be sure to check the bonding of the boundary with the old snow.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northwesterly winds, later southerly winds, cloudy, with a high of 4°C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -8° (as of 5:45 a.m.).
