Watch for storm slabs formed by the snowfall that began yesterday. At higher elevations where snowfall increases, avalanches may be larger in magnitude. Be careful of triggering on open steep slopes where there is little tree cover, or where there is a sudden change in slope, or on steep slopes just below ridges or branch ridges. Watch for avalanches from large start zones overhead, even if you yourself are on a low slope. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullies, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the generated avalanche is small.
Be careful of triggering on open steep slopes where there are few trees, or where the slope changes abruptly, or on steep slopes just below a ridge or a branch ridge.
No new avalanches reported yesterday.
Yesterday, the snow surface remained low density on the northerly slopes, while crusts formed on the steep southerly slopes. Surface hoar was also observed in the Kagura area. On top of that, 20-30 cm of snowfall that began in the evening is expected to be on top. Care should be taken in bonding the boundary surface with the new snowfall.
As of 4:00 p.m., 4 cm of snow had fallen over the past 24 hours at AMeDAS Fujiwara, and snowfall is still continuing. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies and cloudy mornings and evenings in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture due to a high-pressure system, but subject to the effects of a pressure trough and moist air.
