Heightened avalanche conditions on specific terrain features. Be alert for storm slabs formed by snowfall since yesterday. Avoid very steep slopes, areas where the terrain is shaped to not support the snowpack, and areas where there are "terrain traps" below the slope. The snow from previous stormy days has settled well, so even if the slope angle is reduced, conditions are good to enjoy powder runs with good underlying support. The choice of terrain is paramount to safety. Due to the effects of solar radiation and rising temperatures, slabs that were stubborn to respond in the morning may become more reactive by noon. Pay close attention to snow changes during the day. Have a good day.
Be alert for storm slabs formed by yesterday's snowfall. Weakly coherent snow fell yesterday, so please check the interface between new snow and old snow. On steep south-facing slopes, crusts have formed due to solar radiation, which can easily become avalanche bed surfaces.
Yesterday (February 4), a number of sluffs were observed by the ski cut. This was due to the snowfall that began in the morning.
New snow from yesterday morning is on top of the old snowpack that has been settling. The upper part of Below Treeline, the amount of new snow is about 20 cm.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northerly winds, clear skies before noon, snow in places until morning, and a maximum temperature of 6°C (418 m elevation) for northern Nagano Prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -1.8℃ (as of 5:00 am) and 6 cm of snow has fallen in the past 12 hours.
