Travel and Terrain Advice

Note the presence of new storm slabs. Be careful of triggering on steep slopes with few trees or where the slope changes abruptly. Be even more careful at higher elevations where avalanche size is likely to be larger due to higher snowfall. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullies, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday, there was a report of observing multiple size 1 wet loose snow avalanches on a steep southerly slope.

Snowpack

Storm slabs are expected to form due to new snowfall. A low-density layer was reported to be present in yesterday's snowfall, and attention should be paid to bonding of the boundary surfaces. The surface hoar observed in the Kagura area has been buried, and in the Hotaka area, a faceting layer has been observed on the crust that was buried by the previous stormy weather, requiring caution for further bonding.

Weather

As of 6:00 am, 16 cm of snow had fallen in the past 24 hours at AMeDAS Fujiwara. The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts that the winter pressure pattern will gradually loosen and high pressure will cover the area, but because of the effects of a pressure trough and moist air, it will be cloudy and sometimes sunny in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture, with some snowfall until early afternoon.
