Travel and Terrain Advice
At lower elevations, elevated temperatures and rainfall have weakened the strength of the snowpack. Beware of wet loose snow avalanches from large steep slopes where the avalanche size increases, and glide avalanches from cliff-like areas where blocks collapse or glide cracks are open. Do not stay in the lower part of such areas and move quickly. Rain is expected to change to snow at higher elevations. Please act with caution to watch for changes in snowfall amounts.

Yesterday, there were reports of observing numerous loose snow avalanche size 1-1.5 on a steep southerly slope
Snowpack
Due to yesterday's elevated temperatures and sunny slopes, the snow surfaces on the south slope and the north slope below 1400 m lost wet strength, resulting in snowballs and loose snow avalanches of point-generating wet avalanches. Weak rainfall followed. The elevation of the rainfall was at least 1000 m. At lower elevations with thin snow cover, watch for block avalanches from cliff-like areas and glide avalanches from extremely steep slopes and open glide cracks.

As of 4:00 pm, the temperature at Ameda Fujiwara is 1.3°C with no snowfall in the past 24 hours. Light rain is falling in the vicinity. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy skies and rain from morning to early afternoon in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture due to the influence of a low pressure system and a frontal system, which will change to a winter pressure pattern in the afternoon.
