Treeline Fair
Below Treeline Fair Watch for more snowfall in the future.
信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
Dangerous avalanche conditions. In the Treeline, avalanches caused by storm slabs have occurred spontaneously as of yesterday. In addition, since early today, the winter pressure pattern has changed to snowfall with strong winds, and a significant amount of snow is forecast for the future. Even if the amount of snowfall is small at this point, we consider the overall conditions to be poor, and it is a day when route selection and conservative decision-making with a sufficient safety margin are necessary. The weather will worsen in the coming days, so plan your activities with that in mind. For less experienced skiers, this is a good day to ski in the ski area.
Yesterday (February 19), several size 1.5-2 glide avalanches were observed at the base of the mountain. In addition, a size 2 storm slab was observed at the Treeline. All are naturally triggered.
Rainfall reached 90 mm from the afternoon of February 18 to February 19. As a result, glide avalanches have been observed at the valley of the mountain. The cold temperatures this morning are still weak, so caution is needed on slopes with glide cracks. In addition, snowfall due to the winter pressure pattern started earlier today. At the moment, it is more in the northern part of the Hakuba Valley, with about 15 cm in the upper part of the Below Treeline. As of yesterday, storm slab avalanches have occurred in the Treeline, so the bonding of new snow and old snow should be carefully evaluated.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northerly winds, cloudy skies, snow in the afternoon, and a maximum temperature of 5°C (418 m elevation) for northern Nagano Prefecture. At Amedas Hakuba (elevation 703 m), the temperature is -1.4°C (as of 5:00), with no new snowfall in the past 12 hours. At AMeDAS Otari, 5 cm of snow has fallen in the past 12 hours.
