Light new snow overnight could hide yesterdays wind and storm slabs. Glide cracks are numerous and deep. These cracks could also be hiding under the new snow. Keep track of your partners and give the wind slabs more time to settle before stepping out into larger, steeper alpine terrain where the wind slabs have formed. If the sun does shine longer than forecasted a rapid warming of the new snow could increase the avalanche danger on the solar aspects. Watch for hard tree bombs hidden under the new snow.
Natural and human triggered wind slab avalanches were reported yesterday. With more wind and new snow yesterday, wind slabs will continue to be a problem today.

South Yotei yesterday was in the sun and had size 1 & 2 natural slab avalanches, with 25cm crown slide on the 2/19 temperature crust.
Low density new snow overnight covers yesterdays wind and storm slabs. Underneath lays a temperature crust 2/19. Near crust facets may have formed around this crust. This crust is more developed on the solar aspects at tree line and below. Deeper in the snow pack the snow has settled and gained strength.
Today: Yoichi area is forecasted to receive light to moderate snow with light NNW winds. Temperatures will remain well below freezing. Shiribetsu area morning sun possible, light NNW winds and very light snow possible in the afternoon.
