Travel and Terrain Advice

Avalanche Hazard "1 Low" does not mean that avalanches will not occur. Beware of unstable snow remaining in limited areas such as extreme terrain features. Cloudy weather is forecast for today. At times like this, it will be difficult to see slope changes in the mountains due to flat light. It is important to ski at controlled speeds. In some areas at lower elevations, hard debris from avalanches caused by past rains may be hidden by new snow. The weather is forecast to turn wintry again heading into tomorrow, with snowfall predicted. Plan your trips with this in mind.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (February 23), numerous snowballs were observed at lower elevations. In addition, a size 1 loose snow avalanche was reported at the Treeline due to a slight snowfall during the night.

Snowpack

The instability caused by the stormy snow seems to have largely dissipated. There still seems to be some tenperature gradient in some parts of the boundary of the Melt-Freeze crust that was buried on February 19, but the degree of faceting is weak, and no test results of note have been reported.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northerly winds, cloudy skies, and in places, snow at night, with a high of 8°C (418 m elevation) for northern Nagano Prefecture. At Amedas Hakuba (elevation 703 m), the temperature is -4.4 °C (as of 5:00 pm), and 1 cm of snow has fallen in the past 12 hours.
