Watch for induced wind slab just below the ridge and branch ridges. Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are in the forecast. When snowballs begin to roll on steep slopes in the sun, it is a sign that the snowpack is losing strength. Be aware of the possibility of wet snow avalanche from large steep slopes. Beware of "terrain traps" such as gullys and cliffs, where even small outbreak avalanches can cause significant damage. Also, remember that a good slope to ski is the "avalanche terrain itself. Remember the basics: one skier at a time, moving from safe zone to safe zone, and those in the safe zone monitoring the skiers.
Yesterday, there were reports of several slab avalanche sizes 2-2.5 observed on extremely steep southeast-facing slopes near 1800 m that appeared to have occurred during stormy weather, and a glide avalanche size 2.5 observed on a southeast slope near 1300 m elevation.
Strong winds up to the 26th blew off on the ridgeline and formed wind slabs of about 50-80 cm on the steep downwind slopes. Snowfall from past stormy weather is settling and raising bonding.
As of 4:00 pm, there has been no snowfall at Ameda Fujiwara in the past 24 hours. The weather service is forecasting clear skies due to high pressure.
