In Alpine, watch out for unstable slabs that remain on very steep slopes. High daytime temperatures and strong solar radiation can significantly alter the snow on the snowpack surface layer today. When snowballs begin to form, it is a sign that the snow on the snowpack surface layer has lost enough strength. Wet snow is very heavy and can easily scoop even a small loose snow avalanche. Also, be on the lookout for glide avalanches at lower elevations. If you are passing through deep gully terrain at the end of your tour, it is necessary to consider that the flanked areas with glide cracks are very high hazard.
