Treeline Fair
Below Treeline Fair Beware of high daytime temperatures and solar radiation
信頼度:○ good □ Fair △ Low
Those seeking higher elevations should be on the lookout for wind slabs formed by northwest winds. At the same time, beware of slips on hard slopes exposed on the ridge. On slopes where wind slabs have not formed, the instability of the snowpack is on the way to being resolved, but avalanches can still be triggered where the terrain is too convex or isolated terrain is too extreme to support the snowpack, and should be avoided. Higher temperatures than yesterday are forecast for today. Be on the lookout for wet snow avalanches on open slopes to the south. The mountain is expected to be crowded, so please manage your group wisely using safe areas while also paying attention to the movements of other groups. Have a good day.
Beware of high daytime temperatures and the effects of solar radiation
Do not enter slopes with glide cracks.
Yesterday (March 3), several size 1 skier-triggered slab avalanches were reported. Size 1 wet loose snow avalanches were also reported on steep slopes exposed to strong solar radiation.
As of yesterday (March 3), slabs (30-50 cm) formed by snow from the previous day were reacting to human stimuli in certain terrains. As of yesterday, there were two instabilities, one within the new snow and the other at the boundary with the old snow. These instabilities are slowly in the direction of resolution. On the other hand, very strong winds have been blowing in Alpine since yesterday afternoon, and wind slab formation is progressing.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting westerly winds, then northerly winds, cloudy and partly cloudy from early afternoon to early evening, rain, and a high of 11°C (13 m above sea level) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -2° (as of 5:45 a.m.).
