Spring skiing is here and a great time to travel in the mountains and enjoy the beautiful weather. Choose aspects and elevations appropriate for the time of day you intend to travel. Steep solar aspects are the most likely for loose wet and glide slabs especially at lower elevations during the warmest periods of the day. Upper elevations may have fantastic corn skiing as the snow surface warms, but will be firm and challenging before. Beware of cornices as you travel above or below them as they will be unstable with continued warm weather.
Loose wet avalanches will continue on steeper slopes especially during the warmest periods of the day.
The glide slab is a concern with continued warm temperatures and possible precipitation in the form of rain in the forecast.
Wet slab will be of concern if precipitation falls in the form of rain.
Wet loose avalanches will continue on steeper slopes and can start small and become large and harmful as they travel down the slope entraining snow. Glide cracks are for the most part, widespread over the region with a full depth glide slab reported earlier this week.
The snow pack has had time to settle and is going through a spring diurnal cycle of freezing during the night and melting during the day.
Light northerly flow through the day with clear sky and relatively calm winds with a switch to a southerly flow in the afternoon bringing strong winds and mixed precipitation. Possible for freezing level at 2000m in the heat of the day.
