On slopes with glide cracks, the risk of glide avalanche is elevated, so be sure to keep a long distance from those slopes. Be vigilant on snow blocks that remain on cliffs and steep slopes. Loose snow avalanches caused by wet snow can also occur in wooded areas if the slope is steep enough. Even if you are in the forest, consider whether there is an avalanche track there. Avalanche danger at higher elevations is influenced by the amount of rainfall and is highly uncertain at this time. Today may be a good day to relax in the hot springs.
Keep completely away from slopes with glide cracks.
Yesterday (March 9), multiple wet loose snow avalanches (size 1) and glide avalanches (size 2) were observed.
Yesterday, extremely high temperatures were recorded at 17.4°C (12:00 pm) at AMeDAS Sekiyama. This, combined with strong solar radiation, caused a loose snow avalanche Below Treeline. And it has been raining since this morning. Large amounts of meltwater are occurring, and snow intensity has dropped significantly at lower elevations.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting winds from the south, then from the northwest, rain, cloudy before noon, then clear, with a maximum temperature of 15°C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is 1° (as of 5:45 a.m.).
