Following yesterday, today is another "spring day". Climbers should be on the lookout for slips in the morning and wet loose snow avalanches from around noon. Wet snow is very heavy and can easily scoop even a small amount of snow underfoot. If there is a cliff below the slope or other "terrain trap," the consequences must be serious. Also, keep an eye out for large start zones above you. Skiers will enjoy comfortable corn snow skiing by the time the icy slopes loosen up. There are glide cracks in various places, so stop before the slopes where you can't see what is ahead. Have a good day.
Rating is as of morning. Be aware of high daytime temperatures and the effects of solar radiation.
Stay away from slopes with glide cracks. Be wary of leftover snow blocks.
No brand new avalanches were reported yesterday (March 15).
The snowpack is repeatedly melted and freezing. Then it becomes isothermal and strengthening. On the very high elevation, true northern slopes, there is dry snow, but the rest is moist or wet snow.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting winds from the south, then from the north, cloudy, sometimes sunny until late afternoon, and partly rainy in the evening, with a maximum temperature of 19°C (418 m elevation) for northern Nagano Prefecture. At 703 m elevation, the temperature is -0.3°C (as of 5:00 a.m.), and on the 15th, a high of 15.6°C (as of 3:00 p.m.) was recorded at Amedas Hakuba.
