The risk of glide avalanches is increased at lower elevations. Keep a sufficient distance from slopes with glide cracks. At higher elevations, it is snowing. Although snowfall amounts are still very low, please act on the assumption that the bonding between new and old snow is "bad". Also, since there is a hard snow surface under the new snow, even a very small avalanche can be a trigger for a slip drop. In gully terrain, there are more and more holes. The low visibility makes it difficult to notice such hazards. It is important to act with an adequate safety margin.
Numerous wet loose snow avalanches were observed yesterday (March 17). Size 2 glide avalanches were also reported.
Weak rainfall and snowfall began this morning. At lower elevations, the rainfall will reduce the strength of glide-cracked slopes, so adequate precautions should be taken. On the other hand, at higher elevations, there appears to be some snowfall. This new snow is on top of a hard Melt-Freeze crust. The bonding of its boundary surfaces needs to be checked.
