Travel and Terrain Advice

Continued rainfall has wetted the entire snowpack Below Treeline and reduced its strength. Be alert for slopes with glide cracks and leftover snow blocks. Glide cracks occur where the slope changes significantly. If you are on a slope where you cannot see what is ahead, do not slide into the slope suddenly, but stop at a position where you can afford to do so and check what is ahead. Snow is also breaking up on the ridge and just off the ridge. Gully is cracking and water levels are increasing. Please plan your activities safely, assuming that the descent routes that were usable during the high season will not be available.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (March 25), a size 2-2.5 glide avalanche was observed. A size 1 wet loose snow avalanche was also reported in the adjacent Hakuba Mountains at an elevation of around 2100 m.

Snowpack

Rainfall has increased the risk of glide avalanches in all directions, especially below 1,500 m elevation. Although it appears to have snowed in I-Alpine, there is a lack of information and a high degree of uncertainty.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is forecasting winds from the south, then from the northwest, rain, and a maximum temperature of 10° (at 13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is 2° (as of 5:45 a.m.).
