Travel and Terrain Advice

Dangerous avalanche conditions. Careful terrain selection is required. Beware of triggering from steep slopes with thin snow cover. Visibility is poor and it is difficult to recognize avalanche terrain overhead. Be aware of avalanches from the upper avalanche start zone even if you are on a low slope. There are many exposed "terrain traps" such as rocks and gullies where even a small avalanche can cause extensive damage. Be careful of collisions with rocks thinly concealed by snowfall. Please be aware of changes in snow cover conditions due to wind and snowfall in the future.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (19th), a naturally occurring avalanche avalanche size 2 was observed on a north-facing slope near 2600 m. There is also a report of a naturally occurring avalanche avalanche size 2 on an east-facing slope near 2800 m.

Snowpack

A faceted snow layer is observed on top of the crust formed by recent rainfall, which is further stressed by new wind-driven snowfall. Pay attention to the strength of this weak layer. This layer is also likely the source of yesterday's naturally occurring avalanche.

Weather

The temperature at 2380m as of 7:00 am was -5.3℃, snow continued to fall with wind, visibility was poor, and there was about 20cm of new snowfall. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a cold front will pass through the Hokuriku region, followed by cold air, but high pressure is expected to move in near the Korean Peninsula during the night, and high pressure is expected to cover the area from the west. Cloudy from midday with rain and thunder in some areas until early afternoon.
