Limited visibility and increasing wind and snowfall in the coming days will make terrain travel difficult. River crossing remain a hazard and not filled in at present.
Towards the end of the week, we are expecting to see strong to gale force winds and further snowfall. This may result in the increase of instability within the latest new snow. Weather conditions over the coming days may keep us at lower elevations however time should be taken to see how the variable wind speeds and direction is affecting the latest snowfalls.
No new activity has been observed.
Observations suggest a we currently have a stable snowpack with the recent snowfalls settling and gaining strength. A thin crust can be found within the upper meter of the pack with faceting below. Test result in the south of the region showed little reactivity on this interface.
An increase in wind speeds and snow totals is expected in the coming days as low pressure system moves east and bands of precipitation cross Southern Hokkaido. Expect cold temperatures and gale force winds at higher elevations from the North West.
