Reconfirm the habit of continuing basic safety behaviors. To do this, observe the terrain carefully and find terrain where you would not be caught in an avalanche, even if one were to occur. When you rest or regroup, eat, take pictures ・・・・, and stay in the same place for longer periods of time. In the lower elevations, snow cover remains thin. Be aware of non-avalanche hazards to avoid getting your feet scooped up by unseen bushes and shrubs.
In the alpine zone, a slightly southerly westerly wind has been blowing since early this morning, although it was northerly yesterday.
Yesterday, visibility was poor and no new avalanches were reported.
The massive snowfall of the previous day is settling well, and on top of it is about 10 cm of snow from the day before yesterday. In the higher elevation areas, wind slabs are forming on the leeward side due to the strong westerly winds. In the lower elevation areas, the snow surface is wet due to elevated temperatures, and then refreezes and crusts are formed.
The Japan Meteorological Agency expects the area to be covered by high pressure, but will be affected by cold air and a pressure trough. Therefore, it is forecast to be sunny, but cloudy at night in the northern part of the country. The maximum daytime temperature is 7°C (418 m elevation). At Amedas Hakuba (elevation 703 m), the temperature is -2.3°C (as of 5:00). No snowfall since last night at the foot of the mountain.
