There is a danger of newly formed storm slabs. Please check the bonding strength of the interface between new and old snow. Simple snow cover observations made at different elevations and orientations are the first step in understanding the spatial diversity of mountain snow cover. It also helps to better understand avalanche bulletin. Start using small terrains with gentle slopes. Avoid uneven or isolated terrain where the snowpack can become unstable and look for safer, more enjoyable lines. It is important to observe basic behaviors such as stopping in safe areas and skiing one person at a time. Thank you for your continued support this year.
The wind direction, which had been westerly last evening, became northerly last night, with winds blowing directly north from midnight.
No report yesterday because of stormy weather and few mountain users.
By this morning, 30 cm of snow had fallen in the upper part of the Below Treeline area, which was near freezing level yesterday. New snowfall tends to be more on the northern side of the area. In the higher elevation areas, strong northerly winds have redistributed the snow to the leeward side. Below Treeline, it is on top of wet snow from yesterday's rain, and above Treeline, it is on top of dry snow.
The Japan Meteorological Agency expects a low pressure pattern in the west and high in the east at first, but will be gradually covered by a high-pressure system. As a result, it will be cloudy and snowy or rainy until dawn, but will clear up in the evening. The forecast also predicts snow or rain in some areas until late afternoon. At Amedas Hakuba (elevation 703 m), the temperature is -0.5°C (as of 5:00). At 750 m elevation, snowfall since last night is 3 cm.
