Travel and Terrain Advice

Strong winds and snow are forecast to continue. Very careful route selection and conservative decision making is required. When visibility is poor, it is difficult to notice hazardous elements above you. Consider whether there are any major start zones. Snow cover is increasing, but is still low compared to the usual season. Be very careful in the forest, as there are hidden danger elements other than avalanches (holes in stream bottoms, etc.). For less experienced groups, today is a good day to enjoy the powder snow inside the ski area. If you do so, please observe the boundary ropes. It is important for your safety as well as the safety of the other guests. Have a safe and good day.

概要

Avalanche

No new avalanche observations were reported yesterday.

Snowpack

A new snowfall cycle that began yesterday afternoon (12th) brought about 20 cm of new snow (around 1,300 m elevation) to the south of the avalanche bulletin area. Snowfall amounts appear to be higher on the northern side of the avalanche area. This new snow is on top of wet snow from yesterday's rainfall at elevations below 800 m, and on top of wind slabs on the higher elevation eastern slopes.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northwest winds, snow, and a daytime high of 2 °C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -5 °C (as of 4:45 a.m.) and 20 cm of snow has fallen in the past 24 hours.
