Travel and Terrain Advice

Beware of bonding storm slabs that exist in alpine areas where there are no trees or other structures to anchor the snowpack, or on open, steep slopes with few trees. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullies, cliffs, rocks, and standing trees that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. At lower elevations, exposed bushes make running difficult. Be careful of falling into gully.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (14th), several loose snow avalanches of size 1-1.5 were observed on extremely steep slopes, both human-triggered and spontaneous, with a point source dry avalanche size of 1-1.5.

Snowpack

At higher elevations, 50-70 cm of new snowfall affected by the winds from the recent stormy weather is expected to be on top of the snowpack that has been settling. Since there is low-density snowfall inside this snowpack, care should be taken to avoid internal bonding. On south-facing slopes, crusts have formed on the boundary surface, and bonding of the boundary surface with the snowfall from the stormy weather is also a concern.

Weather

As of 3:00 pm, about 10 cm of snow had fallen in the past 12 hours in the area around the AMeDAS Fujiwara, and weak snowfall is still continuing. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies and cloudy mornings and evenings in northern Gunma Prefecture due to a high pressure system, but subject to the effects of a pressure trough and moist air.
