Beware of instabilities within the new snow and be cautious of the new/old bond. Allow time for the storm snow to settle and bond to the old surfaces before venturing into challenging terrain. Loose dry avalanches can be expected on steep slopes. Along with avalanches deep snow brings the risk of snow immersion incidents. Always ski with a partner and keep an eye on each other to assist in the case of an unexpected fall.
Windslab may be buried within the new storm snow as well as on the surface.
Be particularly cautious of the storm slab problem as temperatures rise tomorrow.
Loose dry avalanches can be expected in steep terrain
Storm slab and wind slab were forming yesterday with Ski cuts producing small size 1 avalanches. Loose dry avalanches were reported in steep terrain.
45 to 60cms of storm snow in the past 48 hours adds to the snowpack. The storm started with strong winds and windslab may now be buried by the heavy overnight snowfall. The new/old bond should also be monitored. Overall though the snowpack is right side up, generally increasing in density with no major density changes.
A NNW flow continues today accompanied by moderate to stron winds. Precipitation will taper off this morning giving way to overcast conditions in the afternoon and sunny breaks tomorrow. Temperatures will remain cool through tody but begin rising this afternoon as a West and the SW flow takes over tonight and tomorrow. Temperatures will rise to +2C in the valley tomorrow.
