Dangerous avalanche conditions are present at higher elevations where snow bonding is difficult to progress. Be aware of the presence of storm slabs on steep slopes and wind slabs on ridgelines and just below branch ridges, and be cautious while checking for bonding. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. Be careful of falling into gully. Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are forecast during the day. Also watch for the possibility of loose snow avalanches from large, steep southerly slopes.
Beware of bonding storm slabs on steep slopes.
Beware of steep wind slabs on the ridge and just below the branch ridge.
No observation report yesterday (16th) due to no one entering the mountain.
At the higher elevations where snow accumulation will be higher, there is expected to be more than 100 cm of snowfall accompanied by strong west to northwest winds. Care should be taken in bonding the interior of the snowfall in this stormy weather. Even after the snowfall has ended, wind slabs are expected to form on downwind slopes due to the strong northwesterly winds that continued until early morning.
As of 4:00, the temperature at Amedas Fujiwara is -0.5°C. There has been about 2 cm of snowfall in the past 12 hours, and settling is in progress. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting generally clear skies due to high pressure.
