Travel and Terrain Advice

At higher elevations, be aware of the presence of wind slabs on steep slopes just below the ridge and branch ridges. It is recommended to start from small slopes with low slopes to check for bonding. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. Be careful of falling into gully.

概要

Avalanche

No new avalanches reported yesterday (20th)

Snowpack

Old snow is settling and bonding is good. At elevations affected by the recent rainfall, the snow surface is crusted, and 5-10 cm of new snowfall is expected on top of the crusted surface. Southerly winds have been picking up since mid-morning and may be starting to move the snow.

Weather

As of 4:00, the temperature at Amedas Fujiwara is 0.3°C. Around the area, about 3 cm of snow has fallen in the past 12 hours and continues to be weak. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting snow or rain in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture and cloudy skies in the evening as a low-pressure system with a frontal system moves east-northeast over the southern coast of Honshu.
