This is a very dangerous avalanche condition. Even if you are in the woods, consider whether there are any large start zones above you. Also, remember to be on the lookout for hard, frozen slopes under the fresh snow. For less experienced groups, this is the day to enjoy the fresh snow in the ski area. If you do so, do not enter the closed areas. This is for your safety and at the same time it is important for the safety of other guests.
Beware of instability at the interface between new and old snow or within new snow. Even if you are in the forest, it is necessary to consider that avalanches can occur on partially open steep slopes.
No new avalanches were reported yesterday (23rd).
In areas lower in elevation than around 2,100 m, snowfall since yesterday is on hard, frozen slopes due to rainfall and sunny slopes. Snowfall that began yesterday evening has been heavier on the northern side of the Hakuba Valley, with 20-30 cm at the base of the mountain. In addition, the main ridge is experiencing west to northwest winds averaging 20 m/s and up to 30 m/s.
A strong winter pressure pattern is expected today. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northerly winds, snow, occasional cloudiness, and a daytime high of 1 °C for northern Nagano Prefecture. At Hakuba (elevation 703 m), the temperature is -6.0 °C (as of 5:00 pm), and 13 cm of snow has fallen in the past 12 hours. The Nagano District Meteorological Observatory forecasted 40 cm of snowfall for northern Nagano Prefecture at 4:50 a.m. on the 24th until 6:00 a.m. on the 25th.
