Sunny skies are forecast during the day. Be aware of the possibility of loose snow avalanches from large southerly steep slopes that are susceptible to solar radiation. Be aware of wind slab bonding on steep slopes just below the ridgeline and the ridge at higher elevations where snowpack bonding is less likely to occur. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. Be careful of falling into gully and stepping through snow cover.
Be careful of steep slopes on the ridge and just below the branch ridge.
Beware of large steep slopes that increase the size of avalanches that occur.
Yesterday (29th), there were reports of numerous human-triggered and spontaneous point avalanches and many loose snow avalanches of point avalanche size 1-2 on steep slopes at around 1300-2000m.
There was about 5-10 cm of wind-driven snowfall up to yesterday, and the southerly steep slopes melt-froze due to daytime solar radiation; no vulnerability around crusts buried on the 22nd or within the old snow was reported; no snow was reported around the crusts and within the old snow; no snow was reported on the southerly steep slopes.
As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -4.8°C. Snow accumulation is settling. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies with high pressure expected.
